Small Wins

'Technical Difficulty' increasingly strikes fear in my heart and causes me to break out in a cold sweat. I used to not be a technophobe but recently, having been the wrong side of too many technical problems, I panic at the thought.

This morning, however, the sentence "I have a technical difficulty" as made my heart sing.

My 10-yr-old, looking at the iPad with a confused expression, said "Mummy, I have a technical difficulty and I need your help!"

Dismissing my instinctive response of "oh bugger, it's broken", my brain skipped joyfully to "hahaha, she still believes...". She hasn't yet lost faith in me, in my ability to help with a problem she has. Aw, bless her for her blind optimism!

To be honest, it was with some trepidation that I went to see if I could, if not help, at least understand her technical difficulty. She was doing her maths directly onto the iPad (having shown me - after 3 months - that I don't need to destroy a rainforest a day for the sake of her education) and was having a problem with the keyboard showing on the screen. This could have signalled the end of my technical support function until she said "I need to multiply these two numbers but there isn't a times button". I'd love to say she was impressed when I demonstrated the dual function of the 'x' but her bemused smile was recognition enough. I was able to help and inside I did a little happy dance.
