Different Dreams

Don’t you just love YouTube!?  The eclectic mix of things to watch, from the miraculous to the mundane, and instant access to a hundred different lifestyles.   Over the last few months my daughters, when they weren’t slaving over their online schooling (and sometimes when they allegedly were) spent a significant amount of their time watching other people live their dream lives.  For my eldest daughter, following the adventures of a group of surfers ignited an interest and about two months ago, with the money from her furloughed part-time job burning a hole in her bank account, she bought her first surfboard.  She has ambitions of riding the mega waves of Nazare (Portugal) and Oahu (Hawaii), once she learns to surf of course.

For youngest, who’s always yearned for a tree-house, YouTube has given substance to her fantasies as she’s followed two Cambodian men who apparently create dream homes (complete with swimming pools) using only sticks and a machete.  Her plans for treetop living are showing no signs of abating.

But middle daughter is both more passionate and more practical in her dreams and plans than either of her sisters.  I arrived home yesterday to be greeted with a list of things we need to achieve, sell and purchase to enable us to live her dream life aboard a boat.  She’s planned the route, chosen the yacht and even found a small apartment where, I’m excitedly informed, we can store the two or three pieces of furniture I’m allowed to keep. The apartment will also give her older siblings somewhere to live – apparently they aren’t invited to join us on our round-the-world adventures!
